January 2017 – Happy New Year!

mom-and-caroline-property

I haven’t added a new post for over a year….it was almost exactly a year ago today I was shocked to learn my Mother had just been diagnosed with lung cancer.  She left the earthly plane approximately six weeks later.  So imagine my surprise when I realized this Christmas holiday was the most peaceful and serene I had ever experienced.  How is this possible, I asked myself, after such a devastating loss?

This year has been one of the hardest years of my life; it has shaken me to the very core of who I am – or rather, who I thought I was.  Somehow though, I am in a better place than I was before. I have more peace, more joy, more clarity regarding who I am and what I came here to do.  It is through the darkness I felt and experienced after my mother’s death that I found more light; indeed, I found MY light.

We have a choice in each moment of who we want to be when faced with tough situations like this.  These tough times, times of darkness, despair, frustration, and loss, they polish us; they give us an opportunity to grow, to learn, to feel, heal and transform…without the darkness, how would we ever be able to see the light?

I am sitting in a place of deep gratitude for my Mom – all the strengths, beliefs, virtues, and gifts she passed on to me, and all the things I learned from her.  I know what she sacrificed for me and my siblings….how hard she worked to give us the life she did….and how much she loved us!  She feels closer to me, is with me more, now that she is gone than when she was alive.  I understand that death does not separate us, and love continues well beyond the end of physical being-ness. So perhaps that is where the sense of peace and joy comes from – knowing we are never truly apart from our loved ones, and knowing in darkness, there is an opportunity to find and experience more light, more love, more joy than we could have thought possible. In the darkness is an opportunity to heal.

“What the caterpillar calls the end, the rest of the world calls a butterfly” Lao Tzu

This has been a year of tremendous shift and change, and this change continues to guide and move me through 2017.  I am being called work differently – less weekly classes, more seminars, more online sessions, and a focus towards spiritual and soul work – helping people increase consciousness, and live from their heart, with joy!  Not sure what that looks like yet, but am excited at this change in direction – it feels more aligned with who I am.

I am really enjoying teaching medical qigong/shamanic chinese medicine seminars – stay tuned for possible dates for the fall!  It is extremely satisfying to help others learn about the process of spiritual cultivation and healing.

In the near future, I am looking forward to starting post-graduate shamanic chinese medicine seminars with my teacher Wendy Lang this March.  I am also going to New York this summer to attend the Immortal Sisters Conference in August – to meet like-minded Taoist sisters and find out what others are doing in the Qigong, Tai Chi world.

Blessings for a year filled with love, peace, light and prosperity!

Evolution of Consciousness

Medical Qigong is a wonderful transformative practice, with the underlying intent of developing greater consciousness, or awareness, of what is happening in our bodies, our minds, and our feeling and spiritual worlds.  Stagnation, or blockages, in our spiritual and energetic fields and bodies can manifest into dis-ease in our physical bodies, or at the least, rob us of important vitality – it is important to have a way to connect with these aspects of our being so we can transform any energy that blocks us from manifesting our true beauty and light into the world.

I’ve spent the latter half of my life trying to understand what Consciousness is, what it means, how to define it, how to gain it and how to help others understand it.  In addition to Medical Qigong, and courses in Channeling and Mediumship, I have also been studying the Lightbody, with wonderful results.  Lightbody meditations are designed to bring awareness to the energetic aspects of the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of ourselves, and how to bring more light into all of these parts of us.  I attended the most recent Lightbody Meditation (held every April and October in Medford, Oregon) and came away feeling lighter and more energized after three days of meditation.

Imagine my surprise when, after my return, I started to experience intense anxiety.  I questioned my studies, I questioned my abilities, I was questioning whether or not all my efforts to develop consciousness were in vain, as I was feeling more anxious than I had ever felt in my entire life!  Then, it hit me…..

The consciousness I was gaining was what was making me aware of the anxiety!  I likely experienced anxiety all the time, but was so skillful at applying the masks I used to cover it that I was hardly ever aware of it! Until now.  Now I had to face it…now I could face it, because I could feel it.  I marvelled at the strength of the masks I had used to conceal it, and to avoid feeling it.

We have a saying in Qigong, “you have to feel it to heal it”.  It is an important part of classes and of sessions.  For real transformation to occur, the journey will be at times joyous and at other times, uncomfortable and difficult.  I wish you blessings of peace and love through these times, as you bring light to the dark corners we all have.

Winter is coming, a time for quiet contemplation.

News

All classes in Cranbrook and Kimberley are running – please see Classes and Services for times and locations.  I am available for individual sessions in Cranbrook and Kimberley.

I am offering package deals for sessions, as one session is usually insufficient to create the transformation people seek; regular attendance at classes is recommended and is much more economical, but I have tried to make the sessions more economical for regular clients as well.

The Winter Intensive – Water Element, is fast approaching – it is being held January 29 and January 30, 2016, at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook.  Please register early to avoid disappointment, we have sold out the last two intensives.

Thank you for your interest, and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Namaste,

Caroline

Masters of Medical Qigong

MMQ Certificate

Masters of Medical Qigong, IIMQ, May 2015

I am happy to say that I have meet all the requirements for the 1000-hour Masters of Medical Qigong from the International Institute of Medical Qigong! It feels like it was earned, and I am proud to have qualified for it. However, it in no way means the learning has ended. 1000 hours, and in many ways, it still feels like I am just beginning. There is so much information to take in! Acupuncture points, treatment protocols, exercise prescriptions, oh my!

My husband has a theory about mastery….what mastery is, and what a master is. Masters are always practicing; masters put what they know into practice, and are constantly learning through constantly making mistakes. He calls it “experimenting”. Being a master is not about achieving perfection….masters make mistakes, masters sometimes fail, masters have enough knowledge to know what they don’t know. As my masters degree adviser at the University of Victoria, Dr. Howie Wenger, used to say, “the more you know, the more you know you don’t know”. I am at the stage of knowing what I don’t know! It is not knowledge alone but knowledge and practice combined that create the right conditions for mastery to occur. It is a work in progress, which requires diligent and consistent practice and effort. I will continue to add knowledge and continue to practice, to be worthy of this designation, and worthy of the trust put in me by the students who come to my classes and the clients who lie on my treatment table.

Namaste,
Caroline

Note: please watch for upcoming courses, including fall and winter intensives …stay tuned!

Allowing Our Greatest Potential to Emerge

Since the start of the New Year, I have been privileged to lead, channel, and be a part of many transformative classes and moments with my students. Just before the New Year, we listened to Orin’s Peace Meditation, and sent the peace we generated into the world to join the peace being created by thousands of others doing the same meditation.  At the end of January, the College of the Rockies hosted a Winter Qigong Intensive – held in the Aboriginal Gathering Place, 13 of us spent Friday evening and all day Saturday honoring the season of Winter and the water element, and re-charging our kidneys through deeply relaxing meditations, re-vitalizing exercises, and connecting to Mother Earth.  It was a powerful experience in a location where all felt supported by the energies gathered there.

Classes at Exhale Yoga studio continue – Tuesdays at 4:30 pm and Wednesdays at 10:00 am, with a new Qigong for Beginners class starting at the end of February, Fridays at 4:30 pm.  As well, there is a weekly class held at Centre 64 in Kimberley – Tuesday evenings at 6:45 pm.  Please feel free to attend any of the above classes!

I am enjoying doing individual treatments at Exhale Yoga Studio in Cranbrook, and at the Red House on Wallinger in Kimberley.  Depending on which class above you attend, there may be impromptu group treatments in class, depending on the needs of the group on that particular day.  I would like to leave you with a beautiful passage I found on the World Tai Chi and Qi Gong Day website, regarding how transformative the practice of Qi Gong and Tai Chi can be….enjoy!

Allowing Our Greatest Potential to Emerge

When we hold on to fears, angers, or trivial obsessions, our mind tightens down, our health is diminished, and our vision squeezes to a tunnel vision, cut off from the flow of life. That’s how we “hold on” to things physically, physical things like forks, spoons, or baseballs, and so on, by squeezing them. And this is also how we hold on to thoughts and emotions—by tightening our consciousness around them. This in turn tightens our physical atoms of our body and being, which can translate into “pinched” nerves and high blood “pressure” as the mind tightens down the body. When we hold onto old stagnant images of ourselves, others, or the world, there is no room for new inspired images of reality to flow through us. Even though there is always a new, better reality wanting to emerge through our minds into the world all the time, this gripping of old reality keeps us tight. Tai Chi and QiGong are designed to teach us to breathe…and to let go…of everything our mind and heart hold on to, so fresh creative and inspired thoughts can continually flow through us. Just as that same loosening unlocks physical power.

Speaking of Joy…..I was x-c skiing at the Kimberley Nordic Center this week, and tired and near the end of my outing, I noticed the word “joy” carved in the snow.  It was faded, not fresh, but unmistakeably “joy”.  I marvelled at the coincidence and the timing – me looking just at the right place at the right time to receive this message and inspiration.  One minute feeling tired and exhausted, the next second feeling light and uplifted, and understanding that feeling joy was a choice I could make in that moment.

I find joy while admiring the beauty of snow-capped mountains, or in the feeling of blood and life force energy flowing through me as I ski through fields of pure white snow.  I experience joy while seeing the diamonds as the sun hits the snow in just the right way, enjoying the opportunity to be just in the right place at the right time to be sparkled and bedazzled!  These are the only diamonds I want and need. Being outside in nature brings me joy; being connected to Divinity brings me joy; spending quality time with the people I love brings me joy.

What brings each of you joy?

In every moment, we are given a choice regarding how to think about, act, or react to, the situation of our life at that moment – and from the choices we make in each moment, we create a life.  I encourage you to choose the light; choose the option that is the highest and best; choose the one that brings the most joy.  If you do this, you will build a life with the least amount of regrets.

“I am having strange symptoms since I started coming to class….”

Recently, one of the participants in my class expressed her observation that she had been experiencing noticeable and worrisome changes in her well-being since she started attending class.  She noted she was tired, needing more rest, and was more emotional than normal.  She wondered if she was doing something wrong.  I congratulated her and told her to keep up the good work!

As we start to work with building our Qi/energy and increasing its radiance and presence in our life, all energies that no longer resonate with the higher frequency we are building need to be purged.  Common manifestations of this include increased fatigue, increased emotionality (whether it be sadness, shame, guilt, chaos, doubt, fear, anger and irritation, and any other strong emotion or feeling), acne, boils and other types of skin eruptions, headaches, changes in the digestive system, changes in sleep patterns, and perhaps and overwhelming desire to run away from what is happening as fast as possible!  One starts to feel uncomfortable, and starts to doubt if Qigong is really “working”, because it feels like one is going backwards!

As I mention repeatedly to students, you should expect some of these things to occur, in addition to all the wonderful benefits derived from coming to classes.  In addition to feeling calmer, having moments of greater peace and clarity, experiencing greater harmony and energy, and creating a connection to all the energy around us in Nature, there will be times that are more challenging, as the repressed thoughts, feelings and emotions we have stuffed inside come to the surface to be acknowledged and released.  Remember, “you have to feel it to heal it”.  Be with what arises – observe it with curiosity and a sense of wonder and detachment; see what it has to teach you, and then easily and effortlessly let it go.  Thank it for the wisdom you gained from it, and let it go.  As you do this repeatedly, you will understand that the experiences which felt most trying and most difficult at the time reveal the biggest lessons and gifts.

So, instead of anticipating with dread what might come up next, look forward with hope and excitement to see what will be revealed next for you to heal and transform!

Blessings of Love and Light,

Caroline

New Class for Kimberley!

I am happy to announce the start of a weekly Qigong class at Centre 64, starting on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.  Class will start at 6:45 pm. The purpose of this class is to enhance the development of Qi (life force energy) and promote transformation in all aspects of a person’s energetic field, through a strong and regular commitment to practice.  We will start with the development of the physical energy field, and move on to explore both the mental/emotional and spiritual energy fields.  Individual practice of the exercises and meditations at other times during the week is strongly encouraged.  The ultimate goal of practice is a life filled with greater ease, more lightness, greater health, vitality, love and peace, and a growing sense of consciousness.

I look forward to seeing you there on Tuesday nights!

Treatment Space in Kimberley!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Happy New Year!  Is it the end of January already? Here’s a picture of Steve and I on the Kimberley ski hill earlier this year!

Things have been busy – went to Winnipeg to see my mother-in-law, and managed to squeeze in a treatment with an old friend while I was there.  And when I returned, found a great location to offer treatments from, in Kimberley – at Kootenay Mountain Massage, 850 Wallinger Street.  Will paint it and will move in at the beginning of February!  I am happy to be working with all the other wonderful professionals in the building, and look forward to your visit soon!

November 24, 2013 news – Self-Reflection

East Kootenay E-20121111-00193

Self-reflection is a powerful tool for transformation, as long as we are willing and committed to seeing the truth, and have the tools we need to make the changes required to move forward.  I recently gained such tools, and would love to share them with you….please read on…..

During the week of November 11, 2013, I went to Vancouver to attend the 11th of 12 Medical Qigong seminars, to learn about the Treatment of Spiritual Disorders.  All of my cohorts and I were nervous, to say the least – a lot of the prior reading was about ridding ourselves and others of demons.  We worked ourselves up by visualizing big scary monsters, nasty, evil characters who harm innocent beings.  However, what we learned was that were are all plagued with demons – those stubborn core beliefs and attachments that prevent us from changing, from moving forward, that keep us chained to the past.  And that it is darkness that allows the emergence of the brightest light to illuminate our path forward.

If you had asked me before I left for Vancouver, I would have told you I had been faithfully doing my qigong practice and there was probably not a lot of further negative energy that needed to be cleared.  I could be nervous about going, but secure in the thought that the seminar was going to be about what was plaguing OTHER people – not me.  I could not have been more incorrect.  We (my cohort and I) discovered beliefs within us designed to keep us small, like we would be safer if we stayed behind versus leading, we would not be able to handle more light, others around us would feel less if we were more, we had to suffer in order to help others, or we carried the weight of the world on our shoulders….these beliefs block the Light of our Being from shining into the world.  Through treatments, we learned how to counteract these beliefs so they could be released, and receive the blessing and message releasing these negative energies left behind.

How does one tell if one is being plagued by a spiritual illness?

  • one predominant and on-going negative emotion, such as sadness, anger or rage, worry, fear, or depression pervades one’s life
  • the majority of thoughts one has are those which keep one small or keep one safe from imaginary dangers
  • one has a chronic health condition which does not respond to treatment
  • one has a recurring theme of repeatedly making the same mistake
  • at times, one is sometimes taken over by something they cannot control

So, back to self-reflection; it takes brutal honesty with ourselves to admit we are being “run” by unconscious thoughts that may originate from past lives, or our parents or other family members, or other energies we are not even aware of.  How does our birth order, family conditions, or a history of abuse, affect who we are and what we think?  Personally, I learned I chose to believe I had to be less powerful in order to be safe; I learned I make a lot of decisions on the basis of being a good sister or good daughter or good friend instead of what I may really want; I believed I couldn’t be trusted to speak the truth without harming others; and finally, I believed I alone carried the weight of the world on my shoulders – no wonder they hurt!  In addition, I learned I was unconsciously being controlled by a fear from a previous life – a fear of a painful death as a result of being eaten alive by a bear; this was transformed into the birth of a beautiful new relationship with nature.  These were the most intense and transformational five days of my entire life.

If this post resonates with you, and you would like to explore transforming your own fears and beliefs further, please contact me and I would be happy to assist you.
